Physical properties of transformers

as well as the physics.se chat seems to indicate we lack nice formulae for certain basic features of transformers. Now, people have been designing transformers for a while regardless. How is this?

Many thanks in advance

Joe

Your title (how can I design a transformer) has nothing to do with what you are asking in the body of your posting (how do people design transformers when some websites imply that there aren't nice formulae to use). You need to reformulate this question. – Madmanguruman Apr 25 '12 at 21:58
I did not change the title. I have corrected it. – Joe Stavitsky Apr 25 '12 at 21:58

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. For help clarifying this question so that it can be reopened, see the FAQ.
