Looking to start some projects and looking to see if there is a recommendation of either the Arduino with a 5100 shield or a Spinneret server will be better. I don't have the specs on the project, but am more concerned with cost and ease of development right now.

Thanks.

Arduino seems more popular, but without any specific requirements it's hard to say anything sensible. – pjc50 Jun 20 '12 at 13:58
Nanode is another Arduino-based platform that has Ethernet integrated capability (using the Microchip ENC28J60 ethernet controller). – vicatcu Jun 20 '12 at 14:11
Spinneret looks pretty cool - it's based on the Parallax Propeller, which is a beast of a microcontroller, and uses the Wiznet 5100 (just like Arduino Ethernet) – vicatcu Jun 20 '12 at 14:23
@pjc50 some of the projects will involve web-based access to home controls (locks, garage doors, fish tank, etc.). I've seen projects using both, but am on the fence as to which should be chosen – Larry G. Wapnitsky Jun 20 '12 at 14:26
