Have been teaching photography for more than a decade. Owner of Jay Lance Photography in Spokane, WA. Visit us at www.jaylance.com!

It's important to know that at photo-SE I 'play a lot of Jeopardy.' That is, I ask a lot of questions that I may already know the answer to in order to seed the site with higher-quality questions that help offset the lower-quality equipment recommendation questions that we get a lot of. You need to know that I don't do this because "I'm trying to boost my rep" (my rep is just fine all by itself without 'boosting'), or because I'm trying to somehow game the system. 'Playing jeopardy' and asking questions this way is explicitly allowed in the FAQ, and I think it's the number one best way to help make this site a more useful resource, so I have no intention of 'stopping it.'

Additionally, I sometimes answer my own questions when I ask them. Per the FAQ asking and answering ones own questions is also perfectly acceptable, so please don't complain about how me doing so is somehow 'cheating' or 'unfair.' In fact, my suggestion would be to begin asking (and if you so-choose, answering) your own high-quality questions here at photo-SE. There really isn't a faster way to help photo-SE become a first-rate photography resource on the internet.

In terms of questions I tend to answer, and subjects I feel I 'know a thing or two' about, I especially like questions having to do with lighting and studio photography, the 'art of photography' and 'the business of photography.'

I also think that too many people worry far too much about the technical side of producing photographs and in all their navel-gazing and 'worrying about the minutia,' they forget to actually get out and take pictures in order to become better photographers. Two things that I'm always telling students of mine are: 'get the art right, and the technical will fall into place.' and 'you only have to worry about the technical side of photography if your pictures suck.'
