Ideal WiFi to Serial (or SPI) bridge? I totally agree that some applications don't need the embedded server, but the asker was looking for "Built-in protocol stack -- I want it to handle the WiFi protocol, along with DHCP, TCP/IP, DNS, etc, so that all I have to do is tell it what IP/port to connect to, and then handle the data myself." This says embedded server to me, and that a bare TCP/IP stack will be lacking. |

What are the Best Starter Supply Kits? Either that, or ask all the questions that need to be asked here (I think/hope we're getting close), and then mark subsequent questions as duplicates, but that feels mean. |

Arduino / Processing versus .NET Micro Framework? Best language? Best hardware? See also this question (Related to C++): chiphacker.com/questions/3027/… |

Arduino / Processing versus .NET Micro Framework? Best language? Best hardware? @Chris - The problem is not that it doesn't run machine code, it's that it runs it through a bunch of abstractions. Abstraction, objects, generic libraries, modularity, etc. are all good in that they simplify programming, but they take time and space. |

Arduino / Processing versus .NET Micro Framework? Best language? Best hardware? The power-to-programmer effort tradeoff is also why our desktop PCs take just as long to boot and launch programs as the computers we used 5 or 10 years ago. |

Why is it important not to exceed Vcc at the input to a logic gate? I assume that you mean "higher than the maximum recommended voltage", which is usually Vcc + 0.7 or something like that. 0.1V higher? Absolutely nothing. |

Why is it important not to exceed Vcc at the input to a logic gate? +1 for "...his software seems like it mostly works OK, except for stuff connected to that one pin." Been there, done that! |

Schottky Diode substitution Oh, and in your discussion of Schottky vs. fast/ultra-fast vs. Si, some rule-of-thumb times might help: Schottky - <100 pS, ultra-fast 1-10nS, fast 10-100nS, Si/rectifier >500nS. |

Schottky Diode substitution I would agree with all of these points, and so I won't make my own answer. However, I would add to "Do I only need to match package/voltage/current" that Schottky's can also vary widely in reverse leakage current (from nanoamps to milliamps!), which may or may not be important. Also, you didn't answer the "PS" - Those are OK prices (for singles). However, they're all the cheaper, lower-power, lower current axial package. TO-220 will run about a buck for singles. |

Ideal WiFi to Serial (or SPI) bridge? According to this matrix: <www.lantronix.com/pdf/misc/Embedded-Module-Matrix.pdf>, it looks like there's very little difference. |

Calculate G's of an Accelerometer +/- 250 G's?!? What are you measuring with this thing? The only things that I could imagine would be to mount it on a model rocket or a potato gun. |

Is it safe to use a DC power adapter that isn't UL Listed or CSA certified? I get all of my wall warts from CUI through Digikey. Their products work well, their customer support is excellent, and their prices are decent. They're also UL certified. I've found that their switching regulated power supplies (link bit.ly/aKc9kZex) do really give a +/-2% regulation even at no load and continue to do so all the way to their maximum current, after which they taper off without damaging themselves. |

What to use for the high-side (anode) drivers of a common anode LED matrix? @Andrew No, the MOSFET won't lock on with the gate voltage at the zener voltage, because the zener only limits the voltage to protect the gate; it is not a voltage source. Stop thinking of R1 and D2 as a shunt regulator, instead think of R1 and Q1 as a Vbe-adjusted voltage divider, and the zener just as protection for the gate of M1. |
