On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Running on a platform of no more bad migrations against policy or closing of questions against written policy.

Moderation should not dump bad questions on other sites and should do more than just look for a single keyword before doing so. I will read the question before any migration.

Candidate: SamGibson

I am nominating myself to be a site moderator, because I want to help keep EE.SE running smoothly. I've been here for almost 5 years, so I believe I understand what most users want from EE.SE.

I value the site and the people here. I don't know all the answers, but I want to help people who do know an answer, or who want to ask a good-quality question, to have a good experience on the site.

As I expect many moderators would say, I want to moderate as little as possible, but as much as necessary. I enjoy helping people, and I have a zero-tolerance approach to spam and abuse.

A little about me: I started my career in electronics, including bench repair and field service. I have spent many years working in or alongside engineering groups in various companies, diagnosing problems that couldn't be solved elsewhere. Recently I have been working more on embedded systems (both hardware and firmware). I am a passionate advocate for applying good-quality troubleshooting techniques and critical thinking, when problem-solving.

Here are my answers to the 2021 Moderator Election Q&A - Questionnaire.

This election is over.
