@immibis: To be honest, the bulk of the answer is background, but the core is in the first paragraph: write out the truth tables. The two sides of the equation are identical, because their truth tables are identical. For all 8 possible values of A, B and C, the left and right are equal. The rest of the answer then explains why in reality, we cannot assume that {A,A',B,C} are restricted to just 8 values; there's this transient A=A' condition.
