Mar 8, 2020 at 0:20 | comment | added | Bitbang3r | If the air handler's blower motor is an ECM (most variable-speed blowers ARE), it will try to maintain a constant CFM regardless of static pressure... so closing half the registers while everything else remains constant will just result in the blower working even HARDER to shove the same total CFM through the half that are still open (faster air, smaller cross-section area). The rooms with open registers will get colder than the rooms with closed registers, but your thermostat will probably make inappropriate control decisions unless it's physically IN one of those now-colder rooms. | |

The blower takes a fraction of the power to run compared to the rest of the a/c system. You don't want to waste that precious cold air. | |
