Feb 3, 2013 at 17:07 comment added The Photon I'd agree, for work in a properly equipped lab. But in some cases (working in your garage without a proper microscope and only a RS soldering iron) it might actually be easier to solder one through hole LED than multiple 0603 SMT's.
Feb 3, 2013 at 16:46 comment added Olin Lathrop @TheP: Even if the labor is free, soldering surface mount LEDs by hand is still faster and easier than soldering thru hole LEDs by hand, so it's win either way.
