For Solar Applications, can I use a rotary switch of AC Type?

\$\begingroup\$ Unless the switch has a DC rating of 60V or higher, no. DC switches require special construction to suppress / extinguish arcs when the contacts open - an AC switch doesn't need to worry about this as much due to the natural zero crossings in the voltage. \$\endgroup\$ – Adam Lawrence Dec 14 '18 at 13:48
