My name is Clement and I'm from Malaysia. I'm currently studying for a diploma for electrical engineering.

For my program, I need to design and make a mini portable genset.

I have bought all the material needed. The basic design is that I have a petrol engine, dc motor, 12v LA battery x2, 24v dc- 230v AC inverter.

  1. The engine shaft is coupled to the dc motor.

  2. The engine is started using the dc motor. Kind of like a jump start

  3. The engine will rotate the dc motor which generates 15V DC (tested)

  4. The problem is that the dc motor is a two way motor, it can be a generator when rotated or a dc motor when connected to a battery. And I don't know how to make the electricity go one way and charge the battery and prevent the electricity from the battery flow to the dc motor and activate it.

  5. Because I have bought a 24v inverter, I need to connect 2 12V battery in series in order for it to function.

Please help solve no.4 problem and please take in consideration for no.5 situation.

    \$\begingroup\$ What type of DC motor? BLDC or brushed? You have greater problems than #4 since your generator only produces 15V DC and you have a 24V battery system. It looks like you have not given sufficient thought to the problem at all. Show a block diagram of how you anticipate the system working. \$\endgroup\$ – Jack Creasey Dec 18 '18 at 16:50
