I bought STM32 F401RE and Ethernet shield HR911105A with MCU W5100. I'm not able to configure simple connectivity with it. I have setup all SPI wires and simple code for setting up IP, subnet, and default gateway. I was following this tutorial but the solution doesn't work for me. I have triple checked the wiring and the setup config but I cannot find why I'm not able to just setup IP.

Tutorial link: https://www.carminenoviello.com/2015/08/28/adding-ethernet-connectivity-stm32-nucleo/

All those things are auto-generated by STM32cubeMX except a few lines of code in main.c in user sections.

Ethernet shield library: ioLibrary_Driver

I'm able to compile and run it but I'm not able to assign IP. I tried also mbed online compiler with simple example and then used with ST-LINK Utility to program MCU and the program works fine. The IP is assigned. So there is not problem with Ethernet shield.

This is what I get:

Network configuration:
  MAC ADDRESS: ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  IP ADDRESS:  255.255.255.255
  NETMASK:     255.255.255.255
  GATEWAY:     255.255.255.255

Here is the code that I'm using main.c:

RESOLVED: I'm using STM32CubeMX(even in STM32CubeIDE) and it has only option in settings "GPIO_MODE_AF_PP" but the pin should be set to "GPIO_MODE_OUTPUT_PP". This means that every single time when I will edit peripherals in CubeMX I have to rewrite this option.

My first thoughts were ... ok, no big deal, CubeMX wants there this it's probably has the same functionality... BUT IT DOESN'T!!!

What's an alternate pin function on a microcontroller?

#define  GPIO_MODE_INPUT                        0x00000000U   /*!< Input Floating Mode                   */

It maybe that you're putting the library into UART mode by doing that and it's not trying SPI. \$\endgroup\$ – hekete May 26 at 6:32
