I made an ignition coil driver circuit which is nothing special - they are everywhere on the internet.

What's really bothering me is the back EMF that would fry the 555IC. If I put a rectifying diode (IN4007) at the VCC pin and the reset pin (like in the circuit image) would it solve the problem?

\$\begingroup\$ Low side L switch needs high side clamp to protect FET. D6 does the reverse. low side clamp. and so the diodes are in the wrong sequence and polarity (hint) D6 up then D2 out \$\endgroup\$ – Tony Stewart Sunnyskyguy EE75 Oct 22 at 10:52
