Basically I'm having trouble in the sort of Arduino hardware I need for my project. The system will gather location and movement data that can be analysed to understand the path taken and time spent when a person views a property.

    \$\begingroup\$ We need much more information: What type of property? How big? Inside or outside? What resolution and/or accuracy do you require? Can the person carry a device as they go through the property? Is the property a high acoustic noise environment? Etc. \$\endgroup\$ – user3624 Dec 18 '12 at 23:56

There are lots of GPS units available at Sparkfun (and elsewhere). There's a GPS Shield specific for Arduino, too. That is probably the most straightforward way to generate pathing data. The resolution and specific application (how to store data) is a more complex and broad topic. Perhaps you can be more specific in your question.
