I've been working on this design for a client for a little while now. I can't go into full specifics on it but the basic design is a USB hub. The IC I picked at the time met the design requirements that were established (USB5807C). The hub allows for 1 host and 7 downstream devices to be connected. From what I can see, the chip does support a USB Type-C connection. My client's design changes are a switch to Type-C for the host connection and HDMI output to make use of Type-C's Alt Mode for HDMI. I have some experience working with USB 2.0 and 3.0, but I'm new to Type-C in general and especially the HDMI mode. My question has two parts:
- Is it possible to work in the HDMI port into the current hub design using the USB5807C or would I need to use a different IC?
- How do you go about working in the HDMI support while also having the same pins also acting as a hub?
I know that it's possible to set up because there are a bunch of similar type-c hubs that also offer HDMI. I would really appreciate any help on this a great deal, thanks! :D
