I have a buck converter (LM2596) converting 12V to 3.3V to power an ESP32 off of a 12V battery. When I power my ESP32 via USB and it is connected to the output of the buck converter but the buck converter is NOT connected to the battery, the LM2596 starts to get hot. Is power flowing to the buck converter when this happens? Can I place a diode at the output of the buck converter to prevent this from happening (for my knowledge)?

    \$\begingroup\$ Yes, diode will do the trick. But keep in mind voltage drop acress it. You may want also to put some capacitance after diode to make sure ESP3w will not reboot due to brown out. \$\endgroup\$ – fifi_22 Dec 11 '20 at 4:40
