I am a relatively new to circuity and have had issues selecting the right mosfet for my circuit(see below). I am attempting to control the flow of 12V at 1.5A, from the source of my mosfet using 4.5V from some batteries to control the gate of the mosfet.

This simple circuit has not worked at all and in certain configurations got the mosfet far to hot to touch. I have failed to buy the right mosfets for this circuit once already but I feel sure that I purchased the right one this time. I welcome anyone to double check this however, here is the data sheet.

But I believe that I must be doing something extremely wrong in this circuit. Is it possible I have put the mosfet the wrong way around? (Do mosfets even have a wrong way around?) Or do I need to apply some charge to the body of the mosfet, which I have attached nothing to?

I'm looking for either large errors with my circuit design/common errors I might have and/or a specific reason why the mosfet purchased will not work. Really appreciate any help, thank you
