I have a simple question.

I know exactly Termination resistor in CAN ( .. or other differential pair communication like RS485 ) is necessary to absorb reflection. that is related to wire length, electrical frequency, baud rate. which means seems like not related the number of devices.

however, I heard some rumor in my workforce that is not need to place termination in only 2 devices pair connection. well, in my experience, it doesn't work occasionally but I'm confused whether was a my mistake.

to be clear, i want to know is it really not necessary to put termination resistor in only 2 devices.
