When a mechanical switch closes it's contacts typically do not close "cleanly" and tend to bounce or chatter. This rapidly switching signal could be misread in certain situations so it is usual to attempt to reduce this bouncing to ensure a clean switch detection. the danger is that if the switch is not de-bounced you can detect multiple events from one opening or closing. Can be accomplished using analog circuits or digital circuits.

Software Debouncing to detect if switch has been pressed for T seconds

I have managed to complete the aforementioned task using timers, however, since then, I have used all timer registers (and match resisters that are available) for more important tasks within the sa …

Question about debouncing - delay of state change

There's absolutely nothing wrong with doing "leading edge" debouncing as you describe it — in fact, it's the method that I prefer in my own projects. As you say, as soon as you see the first edge, yo …

How to eliminate the forbidden state in an SR latch?

First of all, your assumption that mechanical switches open cleanly is false. They bounce on both make and break. However, to address the specific question of the latch, it's simply a matter of creat …

How to write a counter in verilog for debouncing an input?

If you're going to insist on using three always blocks for every state machine (excessively pedantic and verbose, in my opinion), you need to do it right: Only the process that updates the state varia …

Is there such 555 timer circuit?

It sounds like you are looking for a non-retriggerable timer (monostable multivibrator). If so, that's exactly how the basic 555 monostable configuration behaves, with the caveat that the trigger inp …

To Remove Debounce from MicroJoystick installed on LogicStart MegaWing (FPGA) and read input...

Your problem is not about debouncing at all. It's actually about how you've coded the second part of your listing. Instead of looking for edge events on the switches, you're simply testing their state …

Does a switch need to be debounced when opened?

In general, yes. Mechanical switches can produce electrical noise (bouncing) on both close and open.

How can a shift register be used to debounce a switch?

To answer your specific question, most flip-flops in general, and the flip-flops used in shift registers in particular, have a minimum clock-to-output propogation time. What this means is that the out …

If you really have LEDs connected between logic signals and ground without current-limiting resistors, that's your problem! LSTTL does not have a lot of high-side drive to begin with, and the bare LED …

debounce state machine graph

Since this is a homework question, I'll just give you some hints to get you started, rather than a complete answer. The key concept for using a synchronous state machine to measure time intervals is …
