KiCad mouse cursor freezing in schematic
If you want to stay at kicad 4 you should at least look into updating to 4.0.7
And you might want to setup your system to use the backported version 5 libs to make transferring your projects over to kicad …

add filled zones doesn't work
KiCad only fills zones if they are connected to a pad in one way or another. This can happen by using a trace, a via or the zone is in direct contact with the pad. … Over at the forum a user made some tests about what the requirements are to get kicad to fill a zone: https://forum.kicad.info/t/filled-copper-zones-not-showing-up-in-gerbers-printouts-3d-view/8401/9 …

Moving to hierarchical design
It kind of depends on what you mean with hierarchical model. Yes as @JonRB wrote you can copy your stuff into hierarchical sheets but just using sheets does not magically translate your schematic into …

74HC14 VCC and GND won't connect even with PWR_FLAGs attached to board input connector
I suspect you follow an outdated tutorial. The current version of the library luckily has gotten rid of the hidden power pins for the 74xx library (sadly some other logic libs still have them, we simp …

KiCad PCB Layout Editor - Selecting entire component/footprint instead of a particular element
I personally use the fab or courtyard outlines as the place to select the full footprint. Works quite reliably.

KiCad: PCB to footprint?
KiCad does not provide an out of the box feature to do what you want.
One option that comes to mind would be to use a template instead of a footprint. … (KiCad stepup would be the way to go with that. Showcase of the footprint generation feature)
You can also look for clues over at the forum. …

Why are my net names not corectly exported to a SPICE netlist?
Well net labels are exported if there is a net (see the helloworld label). You will need to have something connected to the pins with your labels otherwise there is nothing that uses your labels.

Why are power components meant to be power inputs in KiCad?
You tell KiCad where the power comes from by using the so called PWR_FLAG symbol.
The PWR_FLAG symbol has only one purpose. It tells KiCad that the net it is connected to has a power supply on it. … (give the pins the electrical type "power output")

reason to have entire Cu layer as GND connected through via (KiCad)
The main reason one creates a copper zone on any PCB is to get low impedance current return paths without needing to think about it too much. (If you don't have a ground plane you would need to ensure …
