A technique in systems design in which an initial result is fed back into the system to enhance its future operation. This could apply to anything from an analog amplifier to the process of getting software running on a computer.

Bootstrapping or booting refers to a group of metaphors which refer to a self-sustaining process that proceeds without external help. In EE and related fields, the word Bootstrap is used in several unrelated areas.

  • Bootstrap loader (for software or firmware)
  • Bootstrap gate driver (in power electronics)
