A flexible, transparent, fine fibre made of extruded silica to function as a wave guide to transmitting signals through light
Optic fibers are largely used on communications, presenting the following advantages over regular copper wires:
- Greater bandwitdh on a significantly thinner cable, thus costing less.
- Imune to electromagnetic interference.
Since the light travel along them, they're also used on many lighting applications, generally grouped in bundles.
