Anything related to signal theory, i.e. the branch of applied mathematics and engineering studying the properties of signals and the mathematical tools used to manipulate them.

Sometimes also referred to as signal processing, although some authors give to this latter term a more specific meaning. That is, for some authors signal processing is a sub-branch of signal theory more focused on the engineering of manipulating signals (e.g. design of digital filters, efficient algorithms for Fourier analysis like FFT, etc.).

See Wikipedia on signal processing.
