Aug 10, 2015 at 16:31 comment added LorenzoDonati4Ukraine-OnStrike @tomnexus Upon further searches I found we were both right, since it depends on the situation. See Wikipedia. In short ~80W is the basal metabolism level. 100W could well be a person at rest while doing paperwork or the like, while 200W could be a moderate physical exertion (not the typical office work, though).
Aug 10, 2015 at 16:01 comment added tomnexus @lorenzo I googled and found various imprecise figures, but I remember concluding that a resting human was 100 W. So I probably got confused between input and output. Any work would be more, but the question was about sleeping.
Aug 10, 2015 at 13:08 comment added LorenzoDonati4Ukraine-OnStrike @tomnexus I cannot find my source now, but I have stuck in mind that 1human=~100W, not 200W. Can you provide a source for that figure? Thanks.

Aug 9, 2015 at 17:40 comment added sweber Water has an exceptionally high heat capacity, and also ice has a very high capacity. The transition between ice and water also contains a remarkable amount of energy. So yes, if you need to store heat or cold, water is usually the best choice.

Aug 9, 2015 at 16:54 comment added tomnexus Depends on the insulation of the room. A floor figure for HVAC is that one human produces at least 200 W, so you might keep one person cool with 50 W of power. But the usual figure for a room that size would be a small aircon consuming perhaps 1 or 2 kW. The fans alone will be several hundred watts. So the guy melting a cooler of ice is kidding himself.
