After the engine start the main battery will take a lot of current to recover from the effort. The alternator suffers. If yo add the second battery just then the alternator will suffer even more. Wait a minute and the main battery will already be "calm". In modern cars the main controller will raise/lower the alternator voltage to compensate for this. Check yours with a voltmeter => 14.5 for some time after engine start then down to 13.8 | |
