Apr 19 at 8:17 comment added Motla I'm worried about the voltage drop across the resistor. Usually for a 0603 package, the maximum dielectric withstanding voltage is 150V (300V for 0805). The resistor can be damaged by the high voltage.
Jun 12, 2021 at 23:52 comment added Jonathan Hale If you put the resistor "outside" and are relying on it to dissipate some of the transient, make sure you use a large enough package to prevent flashover.
