The Mealy machine has 1 fewer states, which for a more complex machine could make a big difference. But the output is based on both the current state and the input value. If the input value is not stable between state changes (clock pulses) the output could flicker on and off. The Moore machine uses one additional state, but the output is only a function of the current state and so will be stable between state changes.
