I need help understanding the working principle of this circuit that I simulatesimulated in Multisim. 

I'm doing this for my lab report. 

When the switch is closed, the photodiode, phototransistor and LED isare ON at the same time and therethey are in 2 different circuits. The LED is not ON when the photodiode circuit switch is open. 

I need help ASAP, need to submit by tommorrow.
