Now I understand that my problem is that I was missing the fact that op-amps would traditionally be used with dual supply rails and set the point between them as the reference. Because I was only thinking about using op-amps with a single supply and an offset between 0V and max. voltage of that supply as the reference, I didn't understand why would one ever need to use negative voltages. | |
