Jul 18, 2021 at 18:49 comment added Jacc Lawrence @glen_geek thank you explaining the definition of a headlamp to me. I apologize for miss-typing, I am well aware that this is a tail lamp as I used to use it years ago. It's also clear to me that they're red LEDs - if you'll refer to my post, I explained that I was able to to get each to light up. Unfortunately, I had already discovered what you drew out as well as the correct polarity (though I appreciate the drawing). It seems the controller is the main culprit. My best bet is probably just to harvest the working LEDs.
Jul 18, 2021 at 10:47 comment added Mast It's possible to remove the chip and stick a DIY solution to the existing pads, but I'm not sure that would be worth it. At least the LEDs will stay in the original configuration and it looks as if there's plenty of room for additional electronics.
Jul 18, 2021 at 2:03 comment added glen_geek By the way - this is not a headlamp, (a headlamp should use WHITE LEDS). Those are RED LEDS, so it is a tail-lamp.
Jul 18, 2021 at 2:00 comment added glen_geek @Passerby My polarity guesses are not to be trusted...am unsure of orientation of that printed circuit board when that one screw is secure. Certainly, the printed circuit fingers of that push switch must face the pushbutton. Usually, the case clearly shows battery polarity.
Jul 18, 2021 at 1:50 comment added Passerby The left battery is negative on the bottom. The right battery is positive on the bottom. The pcb you have pictured and colored is upside down of its normal layout.
Jul 18, 2021 at 1:48 comment added Passerby Blue is positive red is ground. Ground trace is corroded and needs to be jumped. Battery terminals need a cleaning too.
Jul 18, 2021 at 1:45 comment added Passerby This. Some wire soldered in place and it should be back to working condition.
