Jan 13, 2022 at 21:28 comment added D.A.S. @user1850479 wouldn't Fuse installation be verified which line is being not if installed upstream, unless inline, but that just protects the wires from melting,while the insulation protects the humans along with the ELCB/RCD and unplugging if servicing. But I have noticed GFCI's are far more sensitive. (>Few mA vs 20~30... approx)

Jan 13, 2022 at 17:25 comment added user1850479 One advantage I can think of that is independent of the earth connection is that fusing is easier/safer if you know which terminal is hot. With an unpolarized plug you run the risk that you fuse off the neutral and leave the entire device hot during a fault.
