Timeline for How does a CMOS image sensor manage to read and record all the pixel values? Any good ideas for doing it for discrete components?

If transistors are small compared to the size of your pixels, why not just build a front-end onto each one? You're very right that for a project like this, I'd want to keep my M*N costs small and splurge on my M+N costs. Maybe I can see how it behaves to feed a photodiode directly into a capacitor and then mux the ends of each cap to the ADC. It would increase my mux count from 2-3 to 40+, but would only add one component to each pixel. | |
