Aug 18 at 6:24 | comment | added | Reva Kantaria | So I tried calculating the required base resistance using Ohm's Law. My PIR sensor has an operating voltage of 5-20 VDC, with output voltage of 3.3 V. And I got the base resistance near to 1.3 k. So a 1k base resistor can still do the job and ensure the transistor is saturated?

Aug 17 at 19:21 | comment | added | Reva Kantaria | I'm new to this so I'm not sure which resistor is best for my needs. But as per my current understanding, a 1k ohm resistor will work best when connected in series?

In the schematic only one side of S1 is connected, and the switch therefore appears to have no effect. What is the intended purpose of the switch?

Aug 17 at 17:54 | comment | added | Russell McMahon♦ | Be sure that the PIR pin out is correct as shown. It looks different to normal- they are usually positive output negative or perhaps negative output positive.Yours may be as shown but maybe not.| Be sure that the transistor pin out is as shown for your verdion. You show top to bottom collector base emitter this can vary among models.
