I am currently building a robotic arm that runs 5five motors on 2x18650two 18650 high discharge batteries. The motors run at 6V (Voltagethe voltage is regulated.) and Stall atThe stall current is 1A each. (Total maxThe total maximum intermittent current draw is ~5A.)
I am currently using the 2two 18650 cells in series to get 7.4V and a voltage regulator to supply 6V to the motors. However, I have It has been suggested that Connectingconnecting the cells in parallel and boosting the voltage might be better? I. I am confused as I am under the impression that boost converting is usually less efficient than buck converting which is what I'm doing currently.
Most conversations I read point out the fact that the choice of series vs parallel+boost is very situation dependent, so I would like to know what reasons would make parallel+boost better for this scenario if any?.
