understanding AFSK and FSK

Is there a trick in making FSK behave like AFSK somehow? … Isn't frequency-shifting the FM carrier (FSK) something completely different than frequency-shifting the audio baseband signal (AFSK), or have I got my definitions entirely wrong here? …
