I've created switching circuit for 12V devices using P-channel MOSFET. For most standard applications it works as expected however mosfet gets easily damaged if user connect BLDC motor. I am trying to figure out why is it happening as I had flyback diode (D1) which should protect from this situation.

What's happening here? Is it the diode placed wrong? Did I used wrong diode for this purpose? What else can I do to protect this circuit?
