What is a good guideline for derating? In this case max load = 25% of rated load?

What is the holding current on a triac?
Did some more reading - SSRs can be built with Triacs, SCRs or MOSFETS.

What is the holding current on a triac?
Also if we put the minimum Holding Current (50 mA) through the gate (which we shouldn't because that is the absolute max allowed) would the triac (or SRC) turn even if the load is small?

What is the holding current on a triac?
So in a triac that is switching AC, the current will fall below this minimum current twice every cycle. At which point we have the option of turning the trial on or off by closing or opening the gate?

What is the holding current on a triac?
Thanks. I must be misunderstanding. I thought SSRs were built with triac. The Sharp datasheet describes it as a "Solid State Relay (SSR) ... and a main output Triac".

The datasheet has Holding Current listed as an output characteristic which seems like it applies to the load side rather than the switching side.
