Why might a condenser microphone suddenly only record very close sounds?
The MPM-1000U is the USB version of the MPM-1000, which operates from 48V phantom power.
Maybe there is an internal boost converter which has failed, and the capsule is only getting 5V.
Just a guess.

power a 5V source from an android headphone
There are solutions with a lower-cost BOM and more parts (10 cents or so is possible), but a very easy approach would be to use an LM567 tone detector chip.
Obviously you'd use a lower frequency t …

Why is the collector feedback bias popular in electret-mic preamp circuits?
Most of the hobbyist circuits you find by googling are crap originating from dubious tinkering and then copied from each other. The bias level of this circuit is not very predictable from BJT to BJT ( …

Using Unidirectional Electret Microphone as Static Pressure Sensor
Some of the e-cigs use the sound of the rush of turbulent air flowing past a conventional microphone to trigger the ASIC. …

How does a consumer microphone achieve a sensitivity of -20 dB?
Probably an amplifier (gain would be around 10 or 15, no big deal).
There are 'silicon microphones' with similar sensitivity (-18dB when the internal amplifier is set for +20dB gain) such as this on …

Monitor microphone signal on a USB oscilloscope
And the microphone.
You are apparently using an electret microphone (hence the 2.2k\$\Omega\$ resistor) which will have a DC output of a volt or two if it's designed for 3V operation. … You need to bias the amplifier so the output is near the middle of the output range and AC couple the electret microphone to the input. …

Do electret microphones have polarity?
Yes, they have polarity and it has to be right to work- the output needs to be biased positive with respect to the ground terminal.
The ground/GND terminal should be common with the case, so you can …

Electret microphone weird offset problem
The electret microphone has a FET buffer inside of it and has a DC offset. The capacitor blocks the offset, however you need a path for the bias current of the op-amp. …

What FET can I substitute for PF5102 or J305?
Linear Systems and InterFET still make the J305. Mouser has the InterFET version in stock.

Pre-Amplifying Electret Microphone for ADC Input
There are a few things wrong with your circuit.
First, you need an op-amp that will function on 5V. Half of an LM358 might work for you.
Second, you should divide the output voltage of the op-amp, …

How to connect a microphone to apply audio signal to electronic circuit?
Electret microphone capsules are very easy to use. Just give them a bias voltage and amplify the output signal. They have a built-in JFET that does the hard work. …

Frequency Detection Circuit Design
If you want to play with a canned chip, there's this one (the Mixed Signal Integration MSGEQ7 7-band graphic equalizer), and probably others. Sparkfun sells it in hobbyist quantities. Easy to combine …

Can a comparator (LM393) be used as an amplifier?
A comparator lacks compensation so, in general, it cannot be stabilized to act as an amplifier at unity gain easily, if at all, depending on the internal construction.
However, in the particular cas …

It's not really possible to tell the dielectric of the SMT part without more information. It could be polyester, PET, PPS or PEN as well as possibly PP. Leakage is very low for any of those types, as …
